Clinical Use of the Langer 17/18 Universal Curette

• Posterior teeth, with an extended terminal shank for deeper pockets: both cutting edges are used, so the mesial and distal surfaces of each tooth are covered with the same instrument.
• Subgingival scaling and root planing: keep the face of the blade at 90 degrees to the shank, adapt the lower cutting edge to the root, and use short overlapping strokes.
• Deep and narrow sites: choose the M5 version when pockets exceed 5 mm; the very-fine-tip inserts suit tight interproximal spaces.
