Area-specific Gracey curettes are numbered by the surfaces they reach; Langer and universal curettes cover multiple surfaces with a single blade. M5 instruments carry an extended shank for deep pockets and furcations. Titanium curettes are the correct choice around implants, as stainless scratches the fixture surface.
