Which Pear Bur Do You Need?

Pear Bur Numbers: 330–333 and L Sizes

The US pear bur numbers 330, 331, 332 and 333 are the Busch figure 7 carbide pear in ISO sizes 008 to 014; the long 331L, 332L and 333L patterns are Busch figure 25R in the same three larger sizes. All are FG shank carbide burs for cavity and fissure preparation.

The diamond, Cool-Diamant, Micro Prep, Shorties and HP pear cutters in this collection carry Busch figure numbers only, with the ISO head size shown in each product title.

Clinical Use

The FG carbide and diamond pears are used for conservative cavity access and preparation, opening minimal-extension amalgam and composite preparations with rounded internal line angles; the 330 is the classic minimally invasive access bur and the 47L carbide pears are finishing burs. The HP carbide, SHORTIE, steel, diamond and abrasive pear instruments belong to the Busch prosthesis (laboratory) range for the straight handpiece.

Care and Reconditioning

Clean, disinfect and sterilize carbide, diamond and steel burs between uses following the manufacturer instructions, and replace a bur once it dulls or shows damage.
