Clinical Use

The torpedo’s ogival end forms the chamfer finish line while the taper handles axial reduction, so these are the diamonds for full-coverage crown preparations where a chamfer is the design of record: super coarse and coarse grits for fast reduction, medium for the working preparation, and fine and extra-fine for refining the margin. The 243–245 carbide finishing torpedoes smooth the prepared surface and margin.

Care and Reconditioning

Diamond and carbide torpedoes are cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized between patients in a bur block that protects the head; discard a diamond when the grit no longer cuts freely, and keep the fine and extra-fine grits from contact with coarser instruments.
