Clinical Use

Carbide rounds excavate caries and open access cavities at low speed on the RA shank (1SX for less vibration, 1SXM to reach deep, narrow lesions) and cut retention features at high speed on FG; diamond rounds in coarse to extra-fine grits open enamel, refine endodontic access, and finish; the 41 finishing rounds smooth composite and amalgam; steel rounds and the 421/71/81 round cutters trim acrylic, plaster, and alloy in the laboratory; and the green and pink abrasive stones grind and smooth where a bur would chatter.

Care and Reconditioning

Carbide, steel, and diamond rounds are cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized between patients in a bur block; steel burs must be dried promptly to prevent corrosion, and any bur with dulled grit or a chipped blade is discarded.
