Endodontic Instruments
Endodontic access and obturation require instruments with a narrower profile and finer tactile feedback than general restorative work. Root canal explorers locate orifices without the flex that a standard explorer develops at length; spreaders and pluggers are graded to match standardised gutta-percha taper, so cold lateral condensation seats accessory cones to the correct depth without vertical root fracture. Luks pluggers carry depth markings for controlled warm vertical compaction. Endodontic extraction forceps have narrowed beaks for teeth already weakened by access preparation and are worth reaching for when a root-treated tooth is finally deemed unrestorable. Access cavity burs and root canal preparation burs are listed here as well, though they also appear in the rotary index. The bIONIK endodontic kit assembles the hand instruments on the interchangeable-insert handle system.
