History: Who Invented the Crown and Collar Scissors?

Crown and collar scissors emerged with the stainless-steel crown and the preformed band in the early twentieth century: as soon as dentists were fitting metal forms at the chair, they needed a small, strong scissors to trim them. The "Beebee" name is preserved in dental catalogues from that era but no source identifies the dentist or maker behind it — it may equally be a trade name — so we do not invent one. The "Universal" is what it says: a heavier general-purpose version, and the tungsten carbide edition is the modern answer to harder band alloys.
