Sterilization, Storage, Sharpening & Service
Instrument life is determined less by steel quality than by what happens between procedures. Cassettes keep instruments separated and oriented through ultrasonic cleaning, thermal disinfection and autoclaving, which prevents the point-to-blade contact that dulls working ends and the galvanic pitting that occurs when dissimilar metals sit together in a wet tray. They also cut instrument handling, and with it the sharps exposure that occurs during sorting. The ZEPFcare and Washbasket systems are sized to standard autoclave trays. Bur blocks with sealed lids allow rotary instruments to be processed without being decanted. Sharpening stones and conditioning accessories maintain cutting edges between service intervals; when an edge is beyond chairside restoration, curettes, scissors and forceps can be returned through the reconditioning service rather than replaced.
