Laboratory rotary work is organised around the material you are cutting rather than the tooth you are treating, so this page is arranged the same way. Choose the section that matches your substrate — zirconia and ceramics, precious and non-precious metal alloys, acrylics and denture base resins, or plaster and stone model work — because the wrong abrasive on the wrong material either glazes over immediately or generates enough heat to microfracture the restoration. Nearly everything here runs on the HP straight-handpiece shank. Busch's diamond-interspersed polishers are sold in graded two-step and three-step systems: work through them in order, since a final-stage polisher used on an unprepared surface simply loads up and stops cutting. Sintered diamond and carbide cutters remove bulk; corundum and silicon carbide wheels shape; the buff wheels and pre-polishers bring the surface to a finish.
