Oral surgery burs are Busch tungsten carbide cutters for bone and tooth sectioning on surgical-length shanks: the taper-pointed bone cutters (Busch No. 161, 162, 162A, 164LA, 166, 166A, 267, 269), the surgical round burs (141 and 141A), and the US-numbered 1S round and 31RL/33RL crosscut fissure carbides in RA-L and FG-XL lengths. Every bur on this page is a genuine Busch instrument and ships from our US warehouse.
These specialized Busch oral surgery burs deliver fast, efficient cutting with superior precision and minimal vibration. Ideal for sectioning teeth, removing bone, smoothing sharp edges, and preparing implant sites with exceptional control and durability.
Which Oral Surgery Bur Do You Need?
Pick the head shape first, then the shank your handpiece takes: FG and FG-XL for the turbine, RA / RA-L / RA-XL for the surgical contra-angle, HP for the straight handpiece. The three-digit number after the figure is the head diameter in tenths of a millimeter. Every product in the collection is linked once below, by shank.

Clinical Use
Bone cutters section teeth, remove bone, and contour sharp alveolar edges during surgical extractions, alveoloplasty, and implant site preparation; the surgical round burs open bone and remove it with visibility, while the extra-long crosscut fissure carbides (557X, 558X, 701X–703X) are the sectioning burs for impacted third molars. Run surgical burs at reduced speed with copious irrigation to limit heat in bone.
Care and Reconditioning
Carbide surgical burs are single-patient instruments in many protocols; where reused, clean immediately after the procedure to prevent bone and blood drying in the flutes, then disinfect and sterilize, and discard any bur with a dulled or chipped blade. Our Dental Bur Reprocessing & Sterilization Guide covers the full workflow for Busch rotary instruments.
