  3. Seat the support tray on the adjacent teeth.
  4. Connect the pull rope to the screw and the extractor.
  5. Turn the handwheel so the root is drawn out vertically along its long axis.

History: Who Invented the Benex Extraction System?

The Benex Extraction System was invented by Dr. Benno Syfrig, a Swiss oral surgeon with a medical degree from the University of Zurich and a dental degree from the University of Basel. After more than two decades managing oral surgery referrals and directing an ITI study club in central Switzerland, Syfrig patented a screw-and-frame instrument that extracts single-rooted teeth along their long axis rather than by the traditional buccal-lingual rocking motion, reducing trauma to the surrounding alveolar bone. He later applied the same axial-traction principle to a minimally invasive sinus-lift technique, published in 2010. Helmut Zepf Medizintechnik manufactures the system in Germany to his design, and Deutsche Dental Technologien supplies the system and its components in the United States.

Study

The Benex extraction system makes surgical extrusion a reliable, practical treatment option for many “unrestorable” non-molar teeth. It expands tooth preservation possibilities and should be considered alongside crown lengthening and orthodontic extrusion.

Clinical Use

The Benex Extraction System is used to extract single-rooted teeth and roots vertically along their long axis, for atraumatic extraction, implant site preservation and surgical extrusion; the Benex and Cacaci SinusLift elevators in this collection are used for internal sinus lift.

Care and Reconditioning

Clean and sterilize reusable Benex instruments between patients following the manufacturer instructions and the symbols on each product package, and replace screws, burs, pullropes and support discs as needed using the spare parts listed above. Our Surgical Instrument Reprocessing & Sterilization Guide covers the general workflow for Helmut Zepf surgical instruments.
