Most hygiene instruments are bought, sharpened, and eventually thrown away — handle and all. ZEPF's interchangeable insert system takes a different approach: the working tip is a separate, threaded insert that locks into an ergonomic handle. When a tip wears out, you exchange the insert in seconds and keep the handle for years. One handle, endless sharp tips — available across the bIONIK, Z-SHAPE Relax, and Lotus handle lines.

Why interchangeable inserts?
Lower cost per use. A replacement insert costs a fraction of a complete instrument. Instead of replacing the whole curette when the working end is worn or sharpened down, you replace only the part that actually wears.
Always-sharp working ends. Keep a stock of fresh inserts and rotate them in as edges dull — no more working with tired instruments between sharpening cycles, and no sharpening equipment needed at all if you prefer to simply swap.
Less waste. The handle — the largest part of the instrument — stays in service. Only the small steel insert is retired.
Color-coded tray setup. Handle and tip colors correspond to working-end families, so the right instrument is identified at a glance, chairside and in the sterilization room.

How the exchange works
Inserts thread into the handle and are exchanged with a dedicated safety key. The key holds the working end securely while you loosen or tighten it, so your fingers never touch the sharp tip:
- Seat the insert's working end in the safety key.
- Hold the handle and turn — the key gives you grip and torque without touching the blade.
- Unscrew the worn insert, thread in the new one, and snug it with the key. Done.

Every insert is available as its own item, in three executions: stainless steel (the classic), titanium (for implant maintenance and titanium-friendly protocols), and ZEPF Nanopal coating (harder surface for a longer-lasting edge). Explorer and periodontal-probe tips are interchangeable too.

FAQ
Do I need the safety key to change inserts? We strongly recommend it. The key grips the working end securely, gives you proper torque on the fine thread, and keeps your fingers away from the sharp tip during the exchange.
Are the handles and inserts autoclavable? Yes — the handles, keys, and inserts are designed for standard reprocessing and sterilization cycles. Follow your facility's protocol.
How often should I swap an insert? Whenever the edge no longer performs — either replace it with a fresh insert or resharpen the removed insert like any conventional working end and keep it in rotation.
Which insert fits my handle? Inserts and handles use matching thread standards (noted on each product page). Every complete instrument on our store lists its compatible replacement insert — or ask us and we'll match it for you.
