Choosing a Grit

Busch marks grit with a colored ring and a prefix on the figure number, so you can order the exact 858 you need:

  • Coarse (green ring): Busch No. 6858 for rapid reduction
  • Medium (standard): Busch No. 858 for everyday preparation
  • Fine (red ring): Busch No. 8858 for refining margins and surfaces
  • Extra Fine (yellow ring): Busch No. 858EF for final finishing and polishing preparation

Sizes and Shanks

The three-digit size code is the head diameter in tenths of a millimeter (for example, 012 = 1.2 mm).

  • HP (2.35 mm shank for the straight handpiece)
  • FG (friction grip, 1.6 mm shank for the high-speed handpiece)

Made in Germany by Busch & Co.

Busch & Co. has manufactured rotary instruments in Engelskirchen, Germany since 1905. Each diamond is produced under ISO 13485-certified quality management on a concentric shank for smooth, chatter-free cutting, and is covered by our Busch warranty.

Clinical Use

  • Interproximal reduction: separating teeth and breaking contacts with a fine, pointed tip.
  • Feather-edge margins: axial reduction ending in a knife-edge finish line.
  • Line angles and grooves: refining axial line angles and placing guide grooves.

Care and Reconditioning

Busch rotary instruments are reusable: clean, disinfect and sterilize them between patients according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and replace a bur once it dulls or shows damage. Our Dental Bur Reprocessing & Sterilization Guide walks through the workflow for carbide, diamond and steel instruments.
