Dental Lab Polishers

Prosthesis polishers are rotary polishing instruments — abrasive points, flames, discs and wheels, diamond-impregnated polishers, brushes and buffs — used in the dental laboratory to pre-polish and high-gloss polish acrylics, metal alloys, ceramics and zirconia. This collection holds the Busch laboratory polisher ranges made in Germany: universal and metal polishers (No. 96xx and 97xx), zirconia diamond polishers (No. 98xx), ceramic diamond polishers (No. 99xx), and the brushes, buffs and polishing paste that finish the job.

Which Prosthesis Polisher Do You Need?

Match the polisher to the material first — the universal and metal ranges for acrylics and alloys, the diamond polishers for zirconia or ceramic — then work through the grits in order (coarse or pre-polish, medium, fine) and finish with a brush or buff and paste. Shape (point, flame, disc, wheel, football, cylinder) follows the surface you are polishing.

Laboratory Use

Polishing is the last step of prosthesis finishing: after contouring with cutters, the pre-polisher removes scratches, the medium and fine polishers refine the surface, and brushes or buffs with paste bring up the high gloss — on acrylics, metal alloys, ceramics and zirconia alike. Keep each polisher to one material family and run it at the speed Busch recommends to avoid overheating the restoration; see our Dental Bur Speed Chart.

Clinical Use

These are laboratory polishers: most carry the HP shank for the straight laboratory handpiece, and the brushes, buffs, cloth wheels and paste finish the surface after the polishers. Chairside, the HP polishers can be run in a straight slow-speed handpiece to re-polish an acrylic denture or appliance after adjustment; for intraoral polishing of restorations use the RA and FG polishers in our Dental Polisher Collection.

Care and Reconditioning

Laboratory rotary instruments are reusable: clean them after use and store them dry so the abrasive stays effective; keep brushes and buffs for one paste and material. Our Dental Bur Reprocessing & Sterilization Guide covers cleaning and sterilization for Busch rotary instruments.
