Choosing a Grit

Busch marks grit with a colored ring and a prefix on the figure number, so you can order the exact 830 you need:

  • Coarse (green ring): Busch No. 6830 for rapid reduction
  • Medium (standard): Busch No. 830 for everyday preparation
  • Fine (red ring): Busch No. 8830 for refining margins and surfaces

Sizes and Shanks

The three-digit size code is the head diameter in tenths of a millimeter (for example, 012 = 1.2 mm).

  • HP (2.35 mm shank for the straight handpiece)
  • FG (friction grip, 1.6 mm shank for the high-speed handpiece)

See the Busch Bur Size Chart for full dimensions and the Dental Bur Speed Chart for maximum recommended speeds.

  • Cavity preparation: Class I and Class II preparations with naturally rounded internal line angles.
  • Composite preparations: conservative, rounded preparations that suit adhesive restorations.
  • Occlusal outline: extending and shaping occlusal outline form in a single pass.

Care and Reconditioning

Busch rotary instruments are reusable: clean, disinfect and sterilize them between patients according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and replace a bur once it dulls or shows damage.
