Dr. Karl-Ludwig Ackermann Instrument Collection

The Dr. Karl-Ludwig Ackermann Instrument collection brings together the surgical and implantological tools associated with the legacy of one of Germany's most distinguished oral surgeons and implantologists. Dr. Karl‑Ludwig Ackermann (1952 – 31 July 2020) was a founding partner with Dr. Axel Kirsch in Filderstadt, Germany, where his clinical work spanned oral rehabilitation, periodontology, preprosthetic surgery, implantology, and implant‑prosthetic dentistry.

Dr. Ackermann studied dentistry at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, earning his dental degree in 1976 and his Dr. med. dent. in 1978. After completing specialized training in oral surgery, he became a Fachzahnarzt für Oralchirurgie in 1983. Over the following decades, he made significant contributions to the development of implant systems including IMZ and Camlog, drawing on an exceptional depth of clinical expertise.

Throughout his career, each Dr. Karl-Ludwig Ackermann Instrument collaboration reflected his commitment to integrating scientific evidence with hands-on clinical practice. He served on the board of the German Society of Implantology (DGI) from 2000 and as a board member of the German Society for Dental, Oral and Craniomandibular Sciences (DGZMK) from 2009. An approved specialist in periodontology by the European Dental Association (EDA), he also served as guest professor at Nippon Dental University in Japan, and as a lecturer at Steinbeis University Berlin and praxisHochschule Cologne.

Dr. Ackermann contributed to the editorial boards of the Journal of Dental Implantology and the International Journal of Implant Dentistry, serving as section editor for ridge preservation. His Dr. Karl-Ludwig Ackermann Instrument partnerships with Helmut Zepf represent a tangible extension of his clinical philosophy and precision-focused approach to oral surgery.
