The Pediatric Extraction Forceps No. 13 is the English-pattern (Ash) forceps for the lower premolar region in children — primary molars and the premolars that succeed them. Children’s forceps carry the same figure numbers as the adult Ash range, scaled to the smaller arch and root dimensions of the primary and mixed dentition: shorter beaks, lighter handles, the same angulation. Helmut Zepf makes No. 13 in three versions — a plain version without spring, the ergonomic RoBa Design, and the RoBa Design with diamond-coated beaks — all in Germany, and every one on this page ships from our US warehouse.
Which Pediatric Extraction Forceps No. 13 Do You Need?
Clinical Use of the Pediatric Extraction Forceps No. 13
-
Lower premolar region, primary and mixed dentition: the beaks are scaled to seat below the cervical line of a primary tooth and grip the root, not the crown, so the smaller, more fragile primary root is delivered without fracture.
-
Seat before you move: push the beaks apically to full contact before any luxating movement — on a primary tooth with a resorbing root the margin for error is small, and a forceps that grips only the crown breaks it.
-
Versions: the spring-free version gives full manual control and the simplest reprocessing; the RoBa Design handle reduces hand fatigue and keeps the grip stable; diamond-coated beaks add a non-slip hold on small, smooth primary crowns and let you extract with less squeezing force.
Care and Reconditioning
Zepf forceps are re-aligned and reconditioned by our sharpening and reconditioning service when the beaks wear or the joint loosens. Clean, disinfect and sterilize between patients; the spring-free version has no moving part beyond the box joint.
Warranty and Our Guarantee
Every Zepf extraction forceps carries a lifetime Helmut Zepf Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. And because a forceps can only be judged in the hand, you have 60 days to return it for any reason — even after you have used it. Try it on real extractions; if it is not the instrument for you, send it back.

FAQ
What is a No. 13 pediatric forceps used for? The lower premolar region in children — primary molars and the premolars that replace them. The number identifies the beak and hinge geometry of the Ash pattern, scaled here for the smaller dentition.
Without spring, or RoBa Design? The spring-free version is the classic: full manual control of opening and closing and nothing extra to reprocess. The RoBa Design handle is the ergonomic version, with a contoured grip that reduces hand fatigue; it is also the version offered with diamond-coated beaks.
Why diamond-coated beaks on a children’s forceps? Primary crowns are small and smooth; the coating grips without the squeezing force that would crush a fragile crown or resorbing root.
Is there a warranty? Lifetime on Zepf extraction forceps under the Helmut Zepf Warranty, and 60 days to return for any reason, even after use.
