Laboratory Use
Diamond wheel burs cut and contour in medium, coarse (green ring, 6909) and super coarse (black ring, 5909) grits, the figure 3 steel wheels are available in US Nos.
12–18 and the US 14 also as a carbide wheel, the wheel abrasives and D702/D712 diamond abrasives are made for metal alloys, ceramic, acrylic and zirconia, and the polishers step from pre-polish to high shine on ceramic, composite, zirconia and metal; HP shank instruments are the straight-handpiece (laboratory) versions, while the FG diamond wheels and the RA polishers fit chairside handpieces.
Clinical Use
Chairside, the FG diamond wheel burs (figures 818, 908, 909, 5909 and 6909) run in the high-speed handpiece, and the RA wheel polishers and green wheel abrasives (figures 619, 622, 626 and 627) run in the contra-angle to contour and polish composite, ceramic, zirconia and metal restorations. The HP instruments and the large-diameter polishing wheels are laboratory instruments; see our Dental Bur Speed Chart for the speed range of each shank.
Care and Reconditioning
Wheels and polishers are cleaned of debris, disinfected or cleaned as appropriate, and inspected for true running before reuse; a wheel that runs out of true, a worn abrasive, or a polisher that has lost its coating is discarded rather than reconditioned. Our Dental Bur Reprocessing & Sterilization Guide covers the full workflow for Busch rotary instruments.

FAQ
What are dental discs used for?
Separating and sectioning, which this wheel collection does not cover; the wheel burs, abrasives and polishers here contour, reduce and polish in clinical and laboratory settings. For separating and sectioning discs, see the Lab Diamond Disc & Saw Burs collection.
