US No. 11 Bur – Busch Round Steel, Made in Germany

The US No. 11 is the American number for a round bur with a 3.1 mm head (ISO size 031): a spherical head that cuts on every surface, so it excavates, opens and shapes in any direction. Busch & Co. manufactures it in Germany as Busch No. 1 031. Every US No. 11 on this page is a genuine Busch instrument and ships from our US warehouse.

Speed and Technique

Steel burs are laboratory instruments for the straight handpiece: keep the speed moderate, let the blades do the work, and do not use them on enamel or metal. Maximum recommended speeds for every Busch shape are in our Dental Bur Speed Chart, and reprocessing steps in the Bur Sterilization Guide.

Made in Germany by Busch & Co.

Busch & Co. has manufactured rotary instruments in Engelskirchen, Germany since 1905. Every instrument on this page is a genuine Busch product, precision-ground on a concentric shank under ISO 13485-certified quality management and covered by our Busch warranty.

Clinical Use

  • Laboratory work: the HP steel version hollows out, relieves and adjusts acrylic, plaster and wax in the straight handpiece.
  • Plastics technology and model making: shaping and reducing acrylic and model materials where a rounded form is wanted.

At 3.1 mm the No. 11 is a large head for prosthetic and laboratory reduction.

Steel burs are made for laboratory materials; for enamel, dentin and restorative materials in the clinic, choose a tungsten carbide bur.

Care and Reconditioning

Busch steel burs are reusable: clean, disinfect and sterilize them between uses following the manufacturer instructions and replace them once they dull. Our Dental Bur Reprocessing & Sterilization Guide gives the steps for Busch rotary instruments.
