Composite finishing: the pass after contouring with a 12-blade round, removing micro-roughness before polishing.
Margin blending: smoothing the transition from restoration to enamel.
Metal and amalgam: refining occlusal surfaces without scoring.

Use the standard No. 7006 to contour first, then the No. 8006 to smooth.

Speed and Technique

Finishing burs work at reduced pressure: use them with water spray in the contra-angle or high-speed handpiece and let the blade count produce the surface; heavy pressure only dulls them.
