Goldman Fox Gingivectomy Scissors

Goldman Fox Gingivectomy Scissors

Goldman Fox scissors are the periodontist's trimming scissors: 13 cm, fine and sharp, made for gingival contouring, gingivectomy refinement and precise cutting of soft tissue and materials at the margin. Helmut Zepf offers the pattern straight, curved and compound-curved — the double curve reaches interproximal and posterior sites a single curve cannot — in serrated, Supercut, tungsten carbide and Onyx versions.

Premium Goldman Fox Scissors Collection

Our range covers the configurations clinicians ask for most:

  • Goldman Fox straight, 13 cm — Serrated (46.200.13), Supercut (46.200.13SC), tungsten carbide (46.200.13TC), Onyx (46.200.13TISC)
  • Goldman Fox curved, 13 cm — Serrated (46.201.13), Supercut (46.201.13SC), tungsten carbide (46.201.13TC), Onyx (46.201.13TISC)
  • Goldman Fox compound curved, 13 cm — Serrated (46.207.13) and Supercut (46.207.13SC) — the double curve for interproximal reach

All instruments are forged from premium German surgical stainless steel — fully autoclavable, corrosion-resistant, and engineered to hold their edge through hundreds of sterilization cycles.

Why Choose Zepf Goldman Fox Scissors?

  • Made for the margin — Fine, sharp blades trim gingiva cleanly with minimal crushing — better healing, better aesthetics
  • Three blade forms — Straight, curved and compound curved cover the anterior, the arch and the interproximal
  • Grip options — Serrated and Supercut edges hold thin tissue instead of pushing it away
  • 13 cm balance — Long enough for control, short enough for precision

Clinical Applications

  • Gingivectomy and gingivoplasty refinement
  • Gingival contouring around restorations and implants
  • Crown lengthening
  • Papilla preservation and flap refinement
  • Trimming membranes, matrices and materials at the margin

History: Who Invented the Goldman Fox Scissors?

The pattern is named for two American periodontists whose collaboration shaped the specialty in the 1950s: Henry M. Goldman (1911–1991), founding dean of the Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry and often called the father of modern periodontics, and Lewis Fox of Hartford, Connecticut, his co-author on the landmark textbook Periodontal Therapy (1956). Their gingivectomy knives — the Goldman-Fox #7 through #11 — and the matching fine curved scissors were designed in that era for the precise soft-tissue sculpting their techniques demanded, and both remain standard periodontal instruments today.

FAQ

Goldman Fox vs Iris scissors — what is the difference? Both are fine trimmers. The Iris is shorter (11.5 cm) with needle points for the smallest cuts; the Goldman Fox is 13 cm with slightly longer blades and a compound-curved option, and is the periodontist's first choice for gingival contouring.

When do I want the compound curved version? For interproximal, tuberosity and posterior sites where a single curve still leaves your hand in the sightline. If most of your work is posterior, see also the La Grange, which is built entirely around that double curve.

Which edge should I choose — Standard, Supercut, TC or Onyx? This Goldman Fox pattern is available in standard serrated, Supercut, tungsten carbide (TC) and Onyx-coated Supercut versions. Standard is the everyday choice; Supercut adds a micro-serrated edge for a cleaner shear with less pressure; tungsten carbide holds an edge far longer between sharpenings; Onyx is a Supercut blade with a black coating that eliminates glare under loupes and lights. The style comparison chart in our Scissor Selection Guide sets them side by side.

Can they be resharpened? Yes. Standard, Supercut and Onyx blades can be professionally reground; tungsten carbide edges are re-honed. Use our scissors sharpening service (serrated and micro-surgical versions available) rather than a chairside stone, which will ruin a micro-serration.

Where are these scissors made? Every scissors in this collection is forged and finished by Helmut Zepf Medizintechnik in Seitingen-Oberflacht, Germany — precision dental and surgical instruments since 1921 — and ships fast from our US warehouse.
