The coarse diamond dental bur taper (cone) round from Busch & Co. GmbH — the CD 51G 016 FG COOL-DIAMANT — is engineered for demanding crown preparation procedures that require reliable material removal and consistent cutting performance. Designed in a taper (cone) round geometry, this instrument delivers controlled access and smooth reduction across a range of tooth structure applications.

Product Overview

The CD 51G 016 FG is a coarse diamond dental bur taper (cone) round featuring a green ring color-coding to indicate its coarse grit designation. The COOL-DIAMANT series is purpose-built for efficient cutting while supporting temperature management during preparation, helping to protect pulp vitality during extended clinical use. This pack contains 6 burs, providing consistent availability across multiple patients or procedures.

Key Features

  • Shape: Taper (Cone) Round — ideal for crown preparation and axial wall reduction
  • Grit: Coarse (Green Ring) — optimized for rapid, aggressive tooth structure removal
  • Series: COOL-DIAMANT — designed for efficient cutting performance
  • Shank: FG (Friction Grip) — compatible with high-speed handpieces
  • Pack Quantity: 6 burs per pack
  • Made in Germany — manufactured to high precision engineering standards

Instrument Dimensions

Head Ø1.6 mm (ISO size 016)
ShankFG (Friction Grip) — 1.60 mm Ø, 19 mm overall length (ISO 314)

Per ISO 6360, the size number is the maximum head diameter in tenths of a millimeter. See our Busch Bur Size Chart for the full size conversion table, shank codes, and color ring guide.

Clinical Application

This coarse diamond dental bur taper (cone) round is particularly suited for crown preparation, where consistent angulation and reliable diamond grit adhesion are critical to achieving accurate margins and uniform reduction. The taper (cone) round form factor supports both occlusal and axial preparation steps with a single instrument.

Independent Research: Test Winner at Innsbruck

In an independent laboratory study at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Busch’s COOL DIAMANT design achieved the highest cutting performance in both test series — outperforming same-shape, same-grit diamonds from up to ten competing manufacturers. Under standardized conditions (200,000 rpm turbine, constant 152 g load, 10–40 minutes of continuous cutting on 99.5% Al₂O₃ ceramic), the COOL DIAMANT instrument removed significantly more material than burs from Diatech, Edenta, Horico and Komet (p < 0.05), and in the second series the standard Busch diamond placed second only to its cooling-groove sibling. The authors concluded that instruments with cooling grooves deliver higher grinding performance and need replacing less often.
