The Gracey Curette M5 Deep Scaling variant (GRA 1/2) is a precision periodontal instrument engineered for effective subgingival scaling and root planing on anterior teeth. Designed with a slightly angled blade geometry, this instrument delivers controlled access to the front teeth region, enabling clinicians to remove calculus and biofilm with accuracy and confidence.

ZEPF-bIONIK Handle with NANOPAL Coating

This Gracey Curette is fitted with the ZEPF-bIONIK handle in yellow, engineered to support ergonomic grip and reduce hand fatigue during extended clinical procedures. The handle's distinctive form factor promotes a balanced, secure hold, while the ZEPF NANOPAL coating enhances instrument longevity and facilitates thorough cleaning and sterilization between uses.

Clinical Application

As a site-specific Gracey Curette, the M5 GRA 1/2 is intended for use on anterior teeth, addressing both facial and lingual surfaces. The slightly angled blade facilitates adaptation to root contours in the anterior region, supporting thorough and minimally traumatic debridement in periodontal maintenance and active therapy. Clinicians relying on a high-quality Gracey Curette for anterior instrumentation will find the M5 GRA 1/2 well-suited to demanding subgingival access requirements.

Award-Winning Handle Design

The bIONIK handle won the Red Dot Design Award in 2010, the year of its launch. The jury of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany, honored the bIONIK handle’s ergonomic design, high-tech material, and exceptional lightness and durability.

Design Notes

The M5 design: the first shank is about 3 mm longer than standard and the sharpened working end is shortened, with a 0.95 mm thin, flexible and therefore highly tactile first shaft — built for special subgingival curettage in tight, deep pockets (beyond 5 mm) and along narrow root surfaces. Manufacturer literature (PDF).

Nanopal® coating: the black crystalline nano-coating raises surface hardness to 4,500 Vickers — the highly tempered cutting edge stays aggressive and sharp far longer and does not need resharpening after each curettage, while the scratch-resistant black surface is easy to clean and prevents light reflections.
