Clinical Uses of the US No. 7404

Occlusal contouring: shaping cusp inclines and fossae in posterior composite without flattening the anatomy.
Lingual finishing: refining the concave lingual surfaces of anterior restorations.
Pre-polish: leaving a smooth surface ready for a two-step polisher.

At 1.4 mm the No. 7404 is the smallest of the egg finishers, suited to tight occlusal anatomy and premolars. Step up to the No. 7406 (1.8 mm) or No. 7408 (2.3 mm) for broader surfaces.

Speed and Technique

Finishing burs work at reduced pressure: use them with water spray in the contra-angle or high-speed handpiece and let the blade count produce the surface; heavy pressure only dulls them.
