Clinical Uses of the US No. 7406

Occlusal contouring: shaping cusp inclines and marginal ridges in posterior composite.
Lingual finishing: refining lingual concavities on anterior restorations.
Pre-polish: leaving a smooth surface ready for a two-step polisher.

At 1.8 mm the No. 7406 is the standard egg finisher for molars and most posterior work. The same shape is available in fine (No. 8406) and ultra-fine (No. 9406) blade counts for the final finishing pass.

Speed and Technique

Finishing burs work at reduced pressure: use them with water spray in the contra-angle or high-speed handpiece and let the blade count produce the surface; heavy pressure only dulls them.
