Osteotome inserts are the interchangeable working tips of Helmut Zepf's modular osteotome systems: the convex, concave, and spreader inserts for the Interchangeable Osteotome Set (Nos. 47.961, 47.962, 47.963) and the graduated straight screw inserts (47.990) and angulated inserts (47.991) of the VGO Ost-Set by Dr. Pavel Krastev. Every insert on this page is made by Helmut Zepf in Germany and ships from our US warehouse.
Upgrade or expand your bone management system with our extensive Osteotome Inserts collection. These high-precision osteotome inserts from Helmut Zepf GmbH are designed for use with universal handles and modular sets, offering cost-effective customization for sinus lifts, ridge expansion, bone condensation, splitting, and implant site preparation.
Which Osteotome Insert Do You Need?
Match the insert to your handle system first — the 47.961/47.962/47.963 inserts fit the Interchangeable Osteotome Set (47.961.00); the 47.990/47.991 inserts belong to the VGO Ost-Set. Within a system, work up through the graduated sizes.

Clinical Use
The convex and concave angulated inserts are used for controlled bone condensation and lateral expansion of the implant site in crestal sinus floor elevation and ridge work, where straight-access instruments are limited; the spreader inserts laterally condense and expand alveolar bone for socket preparation. The VGO Ost-Set inserts (U.S. Patent No. 9,333,058 B1) are used in graduated sequence for atraumatic ridge expansion — straight screw inserts 0–6 for anterior sites and angulated inserts 1–8 for posterior sites. In every case the insert is advanced in steps to the planned implant diameter so the site is expanded rather than drilled away.
Care and Reconditioning
Inserts are removed from the handle for cleaning, disinfected, and sterilized in the set's ZEPFcare wash basket; inspect the connection and working end before each use and replace an insert whose tip is deformed. Our Dental Hand Instrument Reprocessing & Sterilization Guide covers the general workflow for Helmut Zepf instruments.
